Dr. Alexander Marmureanu, a world-renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, was recently invited to the Romanian television "Pro TV La Maruta" show, where he discussed the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the US.
Dr. Marmureanu expressed his optimism and belief that Californians understood the importance of, and complied with social distancing as a preventive measure, which was reflected in the relatively lower rates of infection on the west coast of the United States.
When asked if he was afraid of COVID-19, he replied that he is "always concerned, never afraid". In Dr. Marmureanu's opinion, it is extremely important for health care workers to be adequately protected in order to minimize exposure while providing patient care.
Dr. Marmureanu also addressed the status of the U.S. economy during this pandemic, as well as the impact on the hospital systems. He also discussed his Romanian background, having grown up in a family of physicians, which tremendously helped in the pursuit of his medical career and in becoming a successful cardiothoracic surgeon.
